Thank you GMHBA for hosting Tony Attwood’s Geelong seminars at the Geelong Pier function room today.
Two incredibly informative sessions.
They focussed on friendships followed by bullying in the afternoon session. Not surprising for those who have seen Tony previously, and an invaluable experience for those who were seeing him for the first time.
We had an information table which gave us the opportunity to introduce ourselves and share the Treehouse Geelong’s mission to the community. The Treehouse is made up of ASD passionate parents running social groups for mainstream primary and tertiary aged school kids, young adults and 30 plus adults.
It was fantastic to see so many familiar faces as well as connect with new families coming through the door. We shared our stories, our visions, our smiles, and most of all what we could offer through The Treehouse.
It is inspiring to see so many caring devoted parents searching for knowledge. Elvis was in the house, and Tony didn’t disappoint. Apart from the parents, it was fantastic to see so many professionals from Geelong there.
The lovely smiling face of our speech pathologist Caitlin Jolly, psychologists, teachers, and school aids all keen to gain knowledge to help our children.

Often the ASD community don’t fit in.
Research has found that 70% of people with ASD have experienced depression. Tony Attwood spoke about friendships happening through there special interests such as Minecraft and Lego.
We understand the extreme loneliness…frustration…isolation that families can feel when living with Autism. The Treehouse offers support groups, social groups, family fun days and much more.
It was a long day, with many staying for both sessions. It was an emotional journey having a child with ASD. Tony was fantastically candid sharing his own personal stories, leaving everyone involved feeling happy, sad, overwhelmed but most of all empowered.
We thank everyone who came and spoke with The Treehouse, and for all the generous donations.
